&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana"&gt;&lt;FONT size=3&gt;The stress response is commonly referred to as the "fight or flight" response.&amp;nbsp; We instinctively go into the fight or flight mode as a&amp;nbsp;form of protection.&amp;nbsp; This natural response is a built-in mechanism that serves our higher good...to protect and preserve our survival and our sense of well-being. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana"&gt;&lt;FONT size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana"&gt;&lt;FONT size=3&gt;However, when stress becomes chronic, it then becomes detrimental to our health and well-being.&amp;nbsp; Too much stress or no relief from stress leads to exhaustion and a myriad of health problems.&amp;nbsp;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

Try counting to 5 as you inhale.&lt;BR&gt;Imagine the in-breath containing new life, new energy, peaceful calming positive energy. &lt;BR&gt;Place your hand on your abdomen and watch your hand rise as you breathe in and your lungs expand. Keep inhaling until your lungs feel full.&amp;nbsp; Then hold your breath for a moment.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR&gt;Now breathe out, very slowly, through pursed lips (like you're blowing out a candle).&amp;nbsp; Try counting to 5 as you exhale.&lt;BR&gt;Imagine the out-breath containing stressful, negative energy, and you are releasing it from your body.&lt;BR&gt;Keep your hand on your abdomen and watch your hand go back down as you breathe out and your lungs deflate.&lt;BR&gt;Keep exhaling until your lungs feel empty and you can't exhale anymore.&amp;nbsp; Then hold it for a moment.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR&gt;Repeat this entire breathing process until you feel your body relax, until your body feels quiet.&lt;/DIV&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Now, the next step is to....&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR&gt;&lt;SPAN style="COLOR: #000080"&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;S--Shift&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;. Once you have shifted your physiology to a state of balance, notice the shift in how your body feels and embrace the calm peaceful feeling.&amp;nbsp; Do you notice that you have less tension in the muscles in your neck and shoulders? Do you notice that your heart rate has slowed down?&amp;nbsp; Has the “knot” in your stomach relaxed?&amp;nbsp; Can you tell that the anxiety and stress you were feeling has shifted? &lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;Three 10-year studies concluded that emotional stress was more predictive &lt;BR&gt;of death from cancer and cardiovascular disease than smoking... people who &lt;BR&gt;were unable to effectively manage their stress had a 40% higher death rate &lt;BR&gt;than non-stressed individuals. &lt;P&gt;Can you believe that?...emotional stress more predicitve of death from cancer&lt;BR&gt;and cardiovascular disease than smoking! &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Want more proof?&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;According to a Mayo Clinic study of individuals with heart disease, &lt;BR&gt;psychological stress was the strongest predictor of future cardiac events, &lt;BR&gt;such as cardiac death, cardiac arrest and heart attacks. T.Allison et al.&lt;BR&gt;Mayo Clin Proc. 1995; 70(8)&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;A 3-year analysis of over 46,000 workers from six major U.S. &lt;BR&gt;companies, depression and unmanaged stress emerged as the top two most&lt;BR&gt;costly risk factors in terms of medical expenditures-increasing health&lt;BR&gt;care costs by 2 to 7 times as much as physical risk factors such as smoking,&lt;BR&gt;obesity, and poor exercise habits. R. Goetzel et al, J Occup Eviron Med, 1988; 40(10) &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Stop! and think about that for a minute....you could be an obese smoker.. who never &lt;BR&gt;exercised..and your risk factors would still be lower than someone with unmanged &lt;BR&gt;stress or depression.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Amazing! &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Now, for another harsh reality... &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Job stress costs employers more than $200 billion each year in absenteeism, &lt;BR&gt;tardiness, burnout, lower productivity, higher turnover, worker’s compensation &lt;BR&gt;and insurance costs. National Safety Council, 1995&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Depression costs the U.S. $44 billion per year in lost productivity.&lt;BR&gt;National Foundation for Brain Research, 1999&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Do you own a business? Have you ever wondered why health insurance for you and&lt;BR&gt;your employees is so expensive? &lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;An international study of 2,829 people between the ages of 55 and 85 found &lt;BR&gt;that individuals who reported the highest level of personal “mastery”-feelings&lt;BR&gt;of control over life events-had a nearly 60% lower risk of death compared &lt;BR&gt;with those who felt relatively helpless in the face of challenges.&lt;BR&gt;B. &lt;P&gt;In a study of 5,716 middle-aged people, those with the highest self-regulation&lt;BR&gt;abilities were over 50 times more likely to be alive and without chronic &lt;BR&gt;disease 15 years later than those with the lowest self-regulation scores.&lt;BR&gt;R.Grossarth-Maticek &amp;amp; H. Over the years, I had tried to &lt;STRONG&gt;quit smoking &lt;/STRONG&gt;more times than I am able to count on both hands… without success. &lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;Patches, gum, inhalers, stop smoking medications, you name it…I tried it. Nothing I tried helped me &lt;STRONG&gt;stop smoking&lt;/STRONG&gt;. &lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT size=3&gt;&lt;FONT face="Times New Roman"&gt;Now, if you’re like me, and you have tried to break a habit, you know how challenging it can be. You may be able to recall how the struggle feels inside of you….it’s almost as if your heart and your mind are at war. The more you try to avoid thinking about your habit the stronger the urge becomes.&lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

You fail again. You feel bad about yourself again.&lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;You keep repeating the pattern until finally… you get frustrated… tired of feeling like a failure… stop trying… and give up. &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3&gt;You can end up convinced that you’re doomed to live the life you’ve been living… instead of the life you’d love to live. &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3&gt;I was almost in that place. &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

She assured me that I could be hypnotized and would become a permanent non-smoker. She told me 99% of her clients stopped smoking permanently with just one session.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
